Heather was the first student to graduate from the joint UBC-BCIT B.Sc. Biotechnology (Hons, Co-op) Program. She is currently one of only two students annually accepted into UBC's MD/PhD Program. While in medical school, Heather also co-founded the first student-owned independent cafe at UBC Campus, The Boulevard Coffee Roasting Co. Inc.. Heather plans to use the project management skills she acquired both research and business to eventually undertake research projects within the life sciences, with a particular interest in translating stem cell biology from the bench to the clinic. This year Heather completed her PhD exploring the potential for a novel bioreactor model to provide a platform to study angiogenesis and tissue regeneration in vivo. She is 31.
